New to lacrosse

The rules of lacrosse are difficult to learn and apply at first, but with experience and perseverance you will be able to pick up on the rules quickly. Lacrosse is a contact game where players are fully equipped with a helmet, shoulder pads, arm guards, gloves, cleats, etc. Starter equipment packages can range from $200-$300, but it's well worth it. There are 10 players on each team 3 attackmen (offense), 3 mid fielders (offense/defense), 3 defensemen (aka close defense), and 1 goalie. The game starts with a face-off between mid fielders at the mid-line. Face-off's also occur before each quarter and after each goal. If the game ends in a tie, sudden victory is put into affect. Meaning whoever scores first, wins.

There must be three offensive players in its offensive half of the field and four players on the defensive side of the field, including the goalie. The three mid fielders may roam the entire field.
High school games are typically 48 minutes long, with 12 minute quarters. Half-time is ten minutes and there is a two minute break between quarters.
Teams are allowed two time-outs each half. The team winning the coin toss at the beginning of the game decides which side they want to defend. Teams also change sides each quarter.
Only the goalkeeper may touch the ball with his hands, all other players must use their lacrosse stick.
Controlled poking and slapping of the stick and gloved hands to get possession of the ball is allowed
Body checking is permitted if the opponent has possession of the ball. All contact must be made from the front or side, below the shoulders and above the waste. An opponents stick may be checked if they are within five yards of a loose ball.
If a shot is taken and goes out of bounds the player nearest to the ball is awarded possession. If the ball of player goes out of bounds, the other team is awarded possession.
An offensive player cannot enter the crease around the goal, but may reach in with his stick. Defensive players are allowed to enter the crease.
